Reply back to Spudley

Hiya Spudley, how are you? As i was a young girl when i lived in Beatrice House, i vaguely remember the other homes... I know there were a few larger homes directly opposite our home, over the grassy land. I used to play on the large metal animal rocker which seats a good few children at any one time, and sometimes swings. The Wand house i think was opposite us... Not sure. My memory fails me when it comes to name the houses as there was so many. Spudley, if you could forward my email address to Julie Gumbley, that would be nice to get into contac after such a very long time. From what I can remember, Beatrice House housed all girls at the time as there was only Julie, my sister Maria and me living here. My other two elder sisters lived at Icknield House...

Memories

Linford Taylor had his 50th birthday last year - he is a chef in Scotland.  Ive not seen him for years but we keep in touch -- Me and my siblings were there between 1974 and 1979 (Nicklaus, Roger and Dawn Hamilton).  Remember Linford for the "world cups" and lemonade bottles (return and get 10p) - used to get 2p a week pocket money....lol

Tony Byrne ... House father ? Wife's name was Yvonne

Long shot but does anyone remember them? They are my grand parents and they had a son called Shaun(in 1957) not sure what years they were there but I believe there was a fire during their time there. I'm asking because I have a stack of photos of children from their time there and letters also. Some of them are very special and I am keen to give them to their rightful owners.

PAS - Icknield & Meriden Houses

Hello Dilys - lovely to hear from you. I had sent you an email some years ago thru' the main Lefora website which I guess you didn't receive, so it is great to hear from you now.  How are you and what are you doing now, etc. etc.? I now live in London with my husband; I have four children (2 boys and 2 girls) - one of my boys lives with my husband and I. I have 6 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren - my eldest being 16 and the youngest is 2. I retired 5 years ago  and have found myself busier than before (I don't know how I managed to work!!!). I look after one of my grandchildren after school during the week (he will be 5 in April) and at times during the school holidays. I visit my mother twice and week who has dementia and is in a home ; inbetween I try to exercise - swimming, walking and qi gong and don't have much time for anything else. But I am fine and am enjoying my retirement.  I look forward to hearing from you Dilys.  If you wish to email me my address is SoniaEileen@aol.com.

Did you know Susan Carolan?

Looking for anyone who knew Susan Carolan and her older siblings John and Margaret. They entered Princess Alice in 1954 - Susan was under 6 months old. Transferred to Harpenden at some point. Helping my Mum with research.
