Dear Shelagh and Roy,

With regard to another connection with Newquay, I thought you might like to know that the sudden death of the Rev Dr Arthur E Gregory, (the second NCH Principal from 1900 to 1912) on 21 June 1912, a month before the Rev Dr Thomas Bowman Stephenson, made an emergency decision about his succesor necessary at the Methodist Conference the following month.  A man no longer young, was chosen - Rev W Hodson Smith, Chairman of the Cornwall District of the Methodist Connexion.  He was 57 when he assumed office, 77 when he relinquished it, and lived for another ten years in retirement, latterly in Cornwall.

Best wishes,

Clive

Dear Roy,

Apologies - the last line should have read:-

relinquished it, and lived for another ten years in retirement, latterly in Newquay.

That is a bit more specific than Cornwall.

Best wishes,

Clive
